Spectacular gardens and collections across 250 acres host special events and ever-changing landscapes throughout the year.

🌻 Actively investigate science and nature in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, a 12-acre landscape that features a series of lush environments, including a pond, woodland, and meadow. Climb the boulders to look through telescopes, play large-scale musical instruments, make a giant bird’s nest, follow prompts for self-guided exploration and learn from the friendly staff and a corps of energetic teen Explainers. The indoor activity centers are still closed. On Wednesdays & weekends at 2:30 p.m, join storytimes to discover children’s books focusing on food and plant themes.

🪴 Learn about growing and preparing vegetables, fruit, and herbs at the Edible Academy. Get started gardening by sowing seeds, digging, and watering.

🌳 Walk the shaded trails of a stunning old-growth forest. Relax near a sparkling natural waterfall in the Bronx River. Stroll along the Native Plant Garden’s breezy promenade and meadow. Check out the lovely Rose Garden, in peak bloom June & October.

🌵 Wander through jungles, deserts and a pretty rainbow tunnel and other climates in the rain-proof conservatory.

🚋 Be prepared to walk a lot. Most of the terrain is stroller friendly, though they must be left outside the conservatory. Take free trams to and from select points – or ride the 20 minute narrated loop around the grounds.

🎟 Discounted Grounds Admission ($15/adults, $7/students & seniors, $4/ages 2-12) available to NYC Residents; include access to outdoor gardens and collections. On Wednesdays, free admission for all from 10 am to 11 am, and to NYC residents all day.

🎟 Annual memberships start at $90 for individuals, $145 for families (tax-deductible), and include perks and admission all year long to the always changing garden and exhibits and the must-see Holiday Train Show.

🍽  A range of food is available including pretty good pizza, sandwiches and salads at the Pine Tree cafe by the main entrance, or make reservations for The Hudson Garden Grill sit-down farm-to-table restaurant. Head to nearby Arthur Avenue for authentic Italian delights – dine in or picnic at the garden’s picnic tables.

🛍 Also find artisanal sweet treats plus adorable nature themed toys, books, home goods other merchandise in the gift shop.

🚂 A 20 minute ride from Grand Central on the Metro-North Harlem local line to to Botanical Garden Station, located directly across the street from the Garden’s Mosholu Entrance near the Conservatory.

🚙 Parking is $20 with lots at the Main Entrance (2900 Southern Boulevard) and the Peter J. Sharp Parking Garage (401 Bedford Park Blvd) by the Conservatory entrance. Expect traffic on weekends & holidays at the main entrance.

New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show

Marvel at model trains zipping through an enchanting display of more than 175 famous New York landmarks—imagine the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, and other favorites—each delightfully re-created from natural materials such as pine cones, acorns, and seeds.

* The show itself is in the Haupt Conservatory and climate-controlled, but there is a bit of a walk from the man entrance so dress accordingly. Wear layers as the show itself can get warm. Take breaks from the crowds in the tropical rainforest and desert wings of the Conservatory where there are no trains but lots of room to roam freely.

* Strollers must be parked outside the Conservatory – consider leaving your jackets with them.

* Also visit the charming Everett Children’s Adventure Garden with fun nature-inspired outdoor activities.

NYBG Glow

Brilliant color, thousands of dazzling LEDs, pretty installations like rainbow trees, illuminated snowflakes and a chameleon Haupt Conservatory and Mertz Library Building illuminate the already gorgeous gardens, newly expanded for its third year.

🎶 Also enjoy artistic ice sculpting and steel pan drum music and other pop-up performances around the Garden.

🌳 Experience is all outdoors and spread out with lots of walking so bundle up (strollers welcome).

🍽 Enjoy a drink, hot cocoa, and a bite to eat at an outdoor bars or the Bronx Night Market Holiday Pop-Up. Stop by the Pine Tree Café and warm up with a hot cocoa or coffee available for purchase, plus pizzas, pastries and more.  On Saturday nights, enjoy a pre-show meal or light bite at the Hudson Garden Grill (last reservation at 5:30 p.m.). Or get great Italian before or after at nearby Arthur Avenue.

🎟 Add on admission to the Holiday Train Show for $14 more, or save $5-10 per ticket plus get free admission to the changing garden all year long with an annual membership ($90+).

All Aboard With Thomas & Friends

See a sing-along performance with Thomas the Train where kids help Thomas discover the steps to grow a beautiful garden and take a photo with the Really Useful Engine. A fun addition to the Holiday Train Show (included with the ticket) for Thomas fans.

Note that the auditorium is a bit of an outdoor walk from the main train show, as is the Children’s Garden with lots of fun hands-on activities.
