Always something interesting to see – or interact with – at Manhattan’s only dedicated contemporary art museum in a geometric building in a cool neighborhood.

♀ Museum-wide exhibition Judy Chicago: Herstory features six decades of a pioneering feminist artist’s work in painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, textiles, photography, stained glass, needlework, and printmaking. “The City of Ladies,” an exhibition-within-the-exhibition, spotlights women essential to the history of art and Chicago’s own practice, from Artemisia Gentileschi to Hilma af Klint Georgia O’Keeffe.

🪨 A traditional Japanese torii gate, rock garden and bedroom duplicate host the daily activities of the artist Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivio (aka Puppies Puppies) in lobby exhibit Nothing New.

☁️ Don’t miss the great view from the top floor Sky Room.

🍽 Tons of great food options in the happening  neighborhood – dine on tasty avocado toast, couscous and the all-day waffles at nearby French-Moroccan Cafe Gitane or treat yourself at Stick With Me Sweets, Roni-Sue’s Chocolates or Supermoon Bakehouse.

🌳 Lots of cool street art and galleries to explore nearby, plus visit the colorful Desalvio Playground and art-filled M’Finda Kalunga Garden.

⚠️ Note not everything is kid-friendly (we once encountered x-rated drawings of Superman), so chat with the friendly staff before you enter the galleries.
