The “Recession Special” (two franks and a 14-ounce drink for $6.95) at this UWS institution has survived many a business cycle in its 40 year+ history. The clever signs and friendly vibe are as much as a draw for locals, tourists and film & TV location scouts as the tropical juices and tasty all-beef hot dogs (which comes with ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, onions, relish and mustard with chili and cheese available). No seating inside but there are lots of benches in lovely Verdi plaza across Broadway.
