Thanks to NYC’s family-friendly music series, all ages can enjoy fabulous concerts with world-class musicians at iconic venues from Lincoln Center to Carnegie Hall. The programs are engaging, interactive and a steal at $10-$40 for tickets (which sometimes sell out, so plan ahead).
In September and April, Carnegie Hall hosts a variety of fantastic, interactive musical activities and performance sat family days with themes like Latin American sounds and music that changes the world. My City, My Song concerts throughout the year invite children to sing and move along to music from different parts of the world that can be found right in NYC.

Meet great composers - in the flesh - and learn what makes them and their music unique. Hosted by the hilarious Professor Treblemaker with dancers, young musicians, video and short pieces of music performed by the excellent Little Orchestra Society. Includes audience participation during the show and during pre-concert activities in the lobby.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra shares the music and stories of great jazz performers in hour-long narrated concerts featuring dynamic live musical performances, entertaining storytelling and crowd participation in a gorgeous theater. Include pre-show art activities in the lobby (with a stunning view of Central Park). Doesn't have the zany humor of some other series but really teaches the intricacies and wonder of jazz to all ages.

Explore classical music with the Chamber Society of Lincoln Center and wacky private ear Inspector Pulse. This program is entertaining and insightful though the (gorgeously played) pieces can be a bit long for wee ones. Try playing violins, cellos and keyboard with the musicians during the pre-concert Musical Instrument Petting Zoo.

This year's theme is crossing borders -music's ability to transport across time and space, across the boundaries of fantasy and reality. Come early to meet Philharmonic musicians, try out instruments, and enjoy a performance featuring some Very Young Composers.
A delightfully colorful introduction to classical music, My First Classical Music Book explores major composers and musical instrument families with vivid illustrations and engaging text. Comes with an accompanying audio CD with examples for each page. A favorite of our kids for many years.
