One Pier 5 of Brooklyn Bridge Park, find the figure of playwright, journalist and activist Lorraine Hansberry surrounded by five bronze life-size chairs in a variety of styles – an invitation to the public to sit with her and think. By Alison Saar, the creator of Swing Low, The Harriet Tubman Memorial in Harlem.

Join hosts Mahogany Browne and Jive Poetic for a Poetry Slam: Celebrating Hansberry on June 29, after which the sculpture embarks on a national tour.

The Puppet Cycle: Small World Stories

Artist-created puppets bring to life two original short plays and a musical number. Jen Silverman’s Frown Town looks at the upside of feeling down, and Dipika Guha’s Elephantasia features a pachyderm who dreams of flight.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Playgrounds

This expansive park has great attractions and a gorgeous only-in-NYC view. Explore refurbished piers, most of which host playgrounds (our favorites are at Pier 6 including giant Slide Mountain, Sandbox Village, Swing Valley and the splashy Water Lab). Play in the sand and admire tide pools at Pier 4 Beach (no swimming/wading).

Find a variety of yummy concessions throughout the park and restrooms at Piers 2,5 & 6.
