Explore the gorgeous former private library of Gilded Age financier Pierpont Morgan, three magnificent rooms epitomizing America’s Age of Elegance, joined with other historic buildings and modern steel-and-glass pavilions.

* See illuminated, literary, and historical manuscripts, early printed books (including some children’s favorites), and old master drawings and prints.

* Download the Family Guide and meet Belle da Costa Greene, a pioneering Black female librarian who helped build the collection in the early 1900s, for info and activities. Look for a secret vault and hidden passages.

* Engaging exhibits explore art and popular culture. Currently see vibrant drawn portraits in David Hockney: Drawing from Life, and enormous colorful mural by Sol Le Witt and Renaissance grandeur in Poetry and Patronage: The Laubespine-Villeroy Library Rediscovered.

* There is a lot kids will want to be touch but won’t be able to, so make sure yours is prepared to keep his or her hands in pockets and off the old stuff.

* Closed Monday & Tuesday.Admission is free 2 to 5 pm every Friday, advance reservations required.

* Dining Room, Café and coat check are currently close.

 

OFF THE WALL

See and interact with site-specific large-scale art (including the Vessel, currently closed for safety) throughout the Hudson Yards mall and plaza. Activate pieces by 13 different artists that relate back to the site’s past, present or future.
