See intimate displays of gorgeous orchids in brilliant white and striking colors set against the foliage of aroids, ferns, and bromeliads—planted as they might be found in nature and blending gracefully with their surroundings. Smaller than the usual annual orchid extravaganza – but much less crowded with reduced capacity.

* Inside the weather-proof Haupt Conservatory, where kids can also explore deserts and jungles. It is a bit of a walk from the entrance so bundle up accordingly – plus there are thousands of acres of varied landscapes to explore (though the interactive Children’s Garden is currently closed).

* Advance timed tickets required. Annual memberships start at $90 for individuals, $145 for families (tax-deductible), and include perks and admission all year long to the always changing garden and exhibits (including a highly anticipated Kusama membership this summer).

* Range of food available at the Pine Tree cafe by the main entrance. Head to nearby Arthur Avenue for authentic Italian delights – indoor/outdoor dining or to-go for picnics available. There are also some artisanal sweet treats (and adorable nature themed toys and books) in the gift shop.

* Travel via the Metro-North Harlem local line to the Botanical Garden Station, across the street from a entrance.
