Seaport Museum Open Day with PJ Library

South Street Seaport Museum
Suggested Ages: All
Visit the Seaport Museum for free campus-wide family fun in partnership with PJ Library and celebrate the immigrant experience. Inspired by the PJ Library book Gina from Siberia, explore different forms of migration. Tour the iconic 1908 lightship Ambrose, which served for a quarter century as the beacon of hope for immigrants reaching New York. Long before sighting the Statue of Liberty, inbound ships would carry those “yearning to breathe free” past Ambrose on their way to new lives in America.
Make maritime-themed crafts inspired by signal flags and create bridges, tunnels, waterways, and ramps. Come aboard the 1885 tall ship Wavertree to discover sailors’ living quarters and have the chance to raise the sail. Enjoy an interactive storytime at Pier 16 and, when you’re looking for a quiet moment between activities, relax at PJ Library’s cozy Book Nook, with stories for kids from newborn to 12 years old.
