Work with wire, design emoji, engage in light-box play, and more in this all-ages, hands-on space. Drop in and choose from a variety of activities. Make your own emoji, weave paper patterns, browse beautiful picture books, build with unique toys, follow fun drawing prompts and more creative fun.

To get to The Heyman Family Art Lab, walk across the Sculpture Garden, or down the corridor on the second floor of the Museum (past Café 2), then downstairs to the first floor of the Education and Research Building. Small but next to the Sculpture Garden with room for more active play (and snacks for sale).

MoMA Drop-in Drawing

Look closely as you sketch art, people, and architecture during drop-in drawing sessions in the Sculpture Garden. No experience needed. Stools and drawing supplies provided. Prompts available in English and Spanish.

Art Alive

Join an intergenerational drop-in gallery visit and art-making experience. Each session, a practicing artist or artist educator focuses on a work on view in MAD’s current exhibitions, leading hands-on activities and engaging discussions geared towards an intergenerational audience.

Heckscher Playground

Central Park’s largest playground features a shaded area with swings and slides, a large, maze-like climbers, seasonal water features, sloped turf, a large sandbox area, low monkey bars, tunnels, ramps and (our favorite) giant rocks to climb. Plus a spacious bathroom.

Face painters, musicians and giant bubble makers often congregate at the entrance.
