Met Roof Garden: Lauren Halsey
Apr 18 @ 10:00 am– Oct 22 @ 5:00 pm
Suggested Ages: All, Adult Friendly
Lauren Halsey’s site-specific installation for The Met’s Roof Garden accompanies stunning views of Central Park and Manhattan. Go inside the “Afrofuturistic, ancient, funkified spaceship” that draws structural inspiration from the museum’s famous ground floor Temple of Dendur exhibit, complete with columns and sphinxes, imbued with the collective energy and imagination of Halsey’s South Central Los Angeles community. Look for graffiti-like images and phrases, i.e. modern hieroglyphs in this full-scale architectural structure that reflect the ways people aspire to make public places their own.
The Cantor Roof Garden Bar opens on Thursday, May 18.
