Met Roof Garden: As Long as the Sun Lasts
July 1 @ 10:00 am - October 31 @ 5:00 pm
Suggested Ages: All, Adult Friendly
Find stunning views of Central Park and a giant introspective, blue Big Bird swinging on a moon mobile on the Met’s roof garden. Standing 26 feet tall, Alex Da Corte’s “As Long as the Sun Lasts” features Sesame Street mixed with the modern aesthetic of Alexander Calder’s standing mobiles (which you can see at MoMA).
This choice of color gestures to Da Corte’s personal associations with Big Bird: growing up partially in Venezuela, he watched the Brazilian version of Sesame Street, in which Big Bird’s counterpart, Garibaldo, was blue. The color also alludes to the 1985 film “Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird,” in which the character, while out on a road trip, is captured and painted blue by two carnival operators.
The rooftop cafe is currently closed.
Open Thursday–Monday 10 am–5 pm; closed on rainy days.
