Eat at indoor tables next to elderly gentlemen hand-rolling (but not smoking) cigars or take a picnic to the nearby New York Botanical Garden or Bronx Zoo.

Note the parking lot is under construction, free shuttles from Metro-North's Riverdale Station, the 242nd Street stop on the #1 subway line, and a free offsite parking lot.
