The long-running Roots of American Music Weekend returns to close the 2017 edition of Lincoln Center Out of Doors. In the afternoon, singer-songwriter Amanda Shires plays a solo set of fiddle-driven folk, accordionist and conjunto pioneer Flaco Jiménez brings his legendary virtuosity to Tejano waltzes, polkas, and party music and Cory Chisel, Robert Ellis, and Jonny Fritz—the celebrated young singer-songwriters of “grassroots country supergroup” Traveller (NPR)—summon the wistful soul of the American heartland. At 6 pm, guitarist Vernon Reid of Living Colour, Philly rock’n’rollers Low Cut Connie and pioneering alt-country band The Jayhawks pay tribute to rock-n-roll innovator Chuck Berry.
Eats & Treats: Pick up some decadent pastries or almost as delicious salads at Epicerie Boulud across Broadway at 64th Street and feast in the shady grove by the library, on the roof-top lawn, or sitting around the famous fountain. In the summer, enjoy creamy gelato at the L’Arte Del Gelato stand.
