A distinctly modernist building in the scenic hamlet of Katonah hosts three to four exhibitions annually, covering a broad range of art and humanities topics. Explore the peaceful sculpture garden and surrounding Norway spruce trees.
Current exhibitions include ARRIVALS, featuring some 50 works spanning the 16th century to the present, exploring arrivals to America – Columbus, the Middle Passage, the Pilgrims, Ellis Island, the southern border today, among others and The Rothko Room, two masterpieces in a room designed for individual reflection. and Beatrice Scaccia: My Hope Chest which includes stop-motion animation and site-specific wall drawing.
In The Learning Center,a welcoming exhibition and activity space for children of all ages, enjoy art projects that change with each exhibition, create sculptures, paintings, collages, and more, learn about art through games, puzzles, and activities and read stories about art and the visual world. Call before your visit (914-232-9555); The Learning Center is sometimes closed for special events and school groups.
Metro North offers a special getaway package with train ticket from from GCT/Harlem-125th Street and museum admission ($27, $2/ages 5-11). The museum is an easy 15-20 minute walk or 3-minute taxi ride from the Katonah station.
This charming beach-side amusement park, in operation since 1928, has lots of cute rides for little ones and a few roller coasters for those taller and more daring including the historic wooden dragon coaster.
