Japan Society Creative Play & Family Workshops: Snow Sculptures & Calligraphy

Sunday, January 13
1:00 pm–4:00 pm

Japan Society (333 East 47th Street)

Explore Japan’s seasonal customs and culture through art making based on a different theme each month. From 1–2 pm, preschool-aged children and their caregivers explore how Japanese children play with snow. Create experimental snow sculptures with snow that won’t melt and colored lights inspired by the Sapporo Snow Festival. From 2:30–4 pm, 6 to 10-year-olds and their families watch a Japanese big calligraphy performance then make sumi-e ink paintings with artist Taisan Tanaka.
