International Women’s Day first began in New York City in 1911 and has historically been utilized to call attention to the many hardships and oppressions faced by women throughout the world. The Suffragettes founded International Women’s Day to unite and empower women in their fight for equality and to this day, it continues to inspire individuals to persevere in the face of adversity, celebrate powerful women, and organize direct action to further our progress as a society towards the abolishment of gender inequality.
