Green-Wood Cemetery: Walks for Kids
September 17, 2023, 10:00 am –1:00 pm
Suggested Ages: 5 to 12
Choose from two 90-minute nature walks in a lovely historic cemetery.
During Meet Your Green Neighbors (10 am-11:30 am), venture into Green-Wood’s extensive woodlands to encounter all types of fascinating fungi: amanita, russula, boletes, puffballs, jellies, even tiny ascomycetes (“dots on sticks,” an often overlooked but ubiquitous fungi that, though difficult to identify, are fascinating to study). Learn how to differentiate each species and start putting names to some of the city’s more common fall fungi.
During Meet Your Green Neighbors (11:30 am–1 pm), look for plants with expert and certified botanist Molly Nash Rouzie. Learn to make observations and identify the characteristics of plants.
