See the sights of New York Harbor from the decks of the historic 130-year-old schooner PIONEER. Explore what lives under the surface of the harbor and sail past the Statue of Liberty. Drag a trawl net and bring up fascinating organisms to meet (before they are let go). Bring your own food and drink.
Board a historic 1885 schooner and set sail past Governors Island for the fishing grounds of Bay Ridge. Set a trawl net and haul it in, bringing up a variety of creatures from blue crabs to flounder. Children and adults help raise the sails to continue exploring the old fashioned way. While sailing past the Statue of Liberty, learn about the caught (and released) sea creatures, examine plankton through a view-scope, test the water to learn how animals live here, and learn about the marine ecosystem.Every other Sunday through Sept 10
