Explore the vibrant fall foliage of the 50 acre Thain Family Forest—New York City’s largest remaining tract of old-growth woodland. Join Native American Heritage Month activities, tours, educational demonstrations, and more.
Pick up a guide to IDing the trees of New York City’s five boroughs, take a seedling home, learn how to mount a specimen and meet NYBG scientists. Create a tote bag with stencils and stamps that celebrate NYBG’s trees, designed in collaboration with visual artist Carlos Wilfredo Encarnación.
In the always-fun Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, explainers showcase tree specimens from the forest and their uses by the Lenni Lenape people in honor of Native American Heritage month. Make a tree cookie necklace to take home.
In the Mertz Library, sign up for a library card, get a free bookmark, enjoy coloring special Library coloring books, and other fun activities. On Nov 4 at 11, join a family-friendly conversation and book reading with author Brian Selznick, author of Big Tree.
