Explore the magnificent fall colors of the Thain Family Forest, the largest remaining tract of old-growth forest in New York City. See faeries plot and lovers quarrel among the foliage in highlights from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (12 & 2 pm), meet inhabitants including live mammals, reptiles, and birds (12 & 2 pm), watch woodcrafting and more autumnal activities. Head to the hildren’s Adventure Garden to see the enormous tree cookies of a giant sequoia and a white oak, participate in other hands-on fun, and take indoor breaks with themed books and toys.

Immerse yourself in lush gardens and vibrant art of Brazilian legend Roberto Burle Marx, whose powerful modernist vision produced thousands of gardens and landscapes, including the famous curving mosaic walkways at Copacabana Beach in Rio and the beautiful rooftop garden at Banco Safra in São Paulo. Feel his artistic energy and love of plants during a Garden-wide exhibition of bold gardens; paintings, drawings, and textiles; and the sights and sounds of Brazil that inspired his life and work.
