Blocks in the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn (mostly 83rd thru 86th Streets between 11th through 13th avenues) go all in with extravagant Christmas lights and decorations. Santa is around most nights.
Expect crowds and traffic and try to go early in the evening and season. Avoid the car traffic by taking the R train (15 minute walk). Favorite houses include 1152 84th Street and 1134 83rd Street. Get treats from hot-chocolate food trucks.
A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours depart Union Square nightly at 6, pm 7 pm, & 8 pm with lots of info from native Brooklyn guides and vintage Christmas TV specials during the ride plus candy canes and souvenir fridge magnets to take home. ($55-$65, save $5 with code DHFB2023)
