* Tons of indoor and outdoor attractions – expect lots of walking, but strollers welcome (and available for rental). The roads are scenic with pretty trees, waterfalls – and some bold peacocks.

* Learn about gorillas and watch them play in the mostly indoors Congo Gorilla Forest, ride on a ladybug on the Bug Carousel, pet and feed sheep, cows, llamas and more in the charming Children’s Zoo, visit the (indoor & outdoor) Butterfly Garden & pollinator photo-ops a monorail to see elephants and other Asian animals and so much more.

*  Travel back in time and get up close with 52 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs and pterosaurs in ¼ mile-long walk-through Dinosaur Safari.

* Family memberships start at $170 and also include unlimited admission to the Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and Prospect Park Zoo, special members-only events, store & cafe discounts and more. It will take you several visits to see the whole Zoo, plus there are lots of seasonal happenings and special exhibits. Gates open at 9:30am for members with a 10am reservation.

* Free admission on Wednesdays. Advance tickets available at 5:00pm the Monday before.

🍽  Outdoor walk-up food service windows available with lots of covered and open-air seating while the inside of Dancing Crane Plaza Cafe is being renovated. The menu features hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, etc plus veggie paninis. Other food and snack locations are open throughout the park based on weather and daily attendance. Outside food welcome; pick up excellent picnic provisions at nearby Arthur Avenue.

🚊 The BxM11 express bus makes stops along Madison Avenue, between 26th and 99th Streets, then travels directly to the Zoo’s Bronx River entrance. $6.75 each direction, about a 40 minute trip from midtown (see the schedule).

🚙  The Zoo has three entrances with parking lots ($17)  – Southern Boulevard (S. Blvd & 183rd St),  Bronx River (Exit 6 off Bronx River Parkway),  and Asia (at Boston Road & Bronx Park South). Southern Boulevard is the main entrance, closest to the most attractions; but the other gates can be less crowded and closer to some animals/exhibits – see the interactive map to plan your route.
