From 11 am – 3 pm, join The Honeybee Conservancy to find and document the many species of native bees on Governor’s Island. Armed with your curiosity, your phone and the iNaturalist app, search the Island using a handy map to capture photos of some of the 450+ species of bees in New York. Visit The Honeybee Conservancy and Island Bee Project’s Bee Sanctuary, and take an extraordinary look into the fascinating world of bees with arts & crafts and bee demonstrations.
At 5 pm, The Little Opera Theater of NY presents free outdoor concert in Nolan Park featuring three companies presenting excerpts from operas with singers and piano.
James Hsieh: No Place I’d Rather Be
Vibrant embroideries and hand-sewn textile sculptures by multi-disciplinary artist James Hsieh juxtapose childlike wonderments with adult thoughts and emotions in 28 Liberty’s ground-level amphitheater and retail space. Walk though fantastical nature in immersive environments and watch whimsical animations on oversized screens.
