A 1969 Tony Winner about the writing of the Declaration of Independence gets updated for today with a diverse, all female/non-binary cast portraying founding fathers including John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson (who comes off very differently than in Hamilton). A tuneful, funny, tale of getting two dozen powerfully passionate, exceedingly complicated, and all-too-human individuals to settle their differences.

No rapping in this production but the arguments move quickly and may confuse those less familiar with the history.

🤬 Bawdy language and mild cursing (son of a bitch, hell).
💥 A slave auction and other violent moments are acted out. There is a non-firing replica firearm on stage and a gunshot sound effect.
❤️ Some mild innuendo, particularly about Jefferson burning for his wife (who sings about how well he ”plays the violin). References to ‘whoring’ and ‘the French disease’ (STD).
