Enjoy music, stories, and more in magical Central Park and the Upper East Side.

Though Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream starts past most kids’ bedtimes, enter the online lottery for a magical grown-ups’ night out. Get some daytime magic with a Shake-speare, a strawberry and rose shake topped with whipped cream and fairy dust sprinkles from the UWS Shake Shack to sip during other al fresco entertainment.

Stories at the Statue: Hans Christian Andersen Story Telling

June 24 – September 30

Gather around Hans Christian Andersen’s statue at the Conservatory Pond in Central Park to hear his tales and other fairy and folk tales from around the world recounted by rotating storytellers.

Harlem Meer Performance Festival

June 25 – September 3
Sunday, 2:00 pm–4:00 pm
Central Park, Dana Discovery Center at the Harlem Meer, 110th Street between Fifth & Lenox Avenue

This summer lakeside concerts series features international and local musicians playing in a variety of easy-to-dance-to styles including jazz, Latin, world, and gospel music and dance. Some chairs are provided, or bring a blanket and picnic lunch to listen on a lawn.


July 5 – August 27

Rumsey Playfield, Central Park, Fifth Avenue & 69th Street

The schedule varies each week for these outdoor music and dance concerts featuring artists from New York and all over the world, but there is always at least one weekend afternoon option for grooving in the park. Bring a blanket in case the seats are full. Refreshments from local vendors including Blue Marble ice cream available for purchase. Family Day on August 12 features our fave They Might Be Giants.

Discovery Walk for Families

July 8 – August 26

Central Park, Various Locations, Central Park

Bring your family for a guided walk and discover why Central Park is a sanctuary for plants, animals, and humans alike. Learn about the architecture, landscapes, and ecosystems of the Park through hands-on exploration using Discovery Kits – rugged backpacks filled with kid-friendly binoculars, field guides, and hand lenses. Upcoming walks include Belvedere’s Kingdom, Conservatory Garden, Living Laboratory, PARKitecture, Shakespeare Garden, Time Travelers, Towering Trees and Woodland Wonderlands.
