Indoor Playspaces
Need some indoor play options but don’t want to commit to a pricey class or membership? Here are some great drop-in playspaces. Also remember:

* The kid’s spaces at MoMA, the Met, Natural History Museum and other museums also offer excellent drop-in fun. Tax-deductible memberships allow frequent creative play all year long starting at less than $100.

* Check out a range of drop-in classes and weekly storytimes. Some semester-only classes offer free or discounted trial classes.

* Many spaces & classes offer occasional introductory deals. Subscribe to our email list or like us on Facebook and we’ll let you know when they come up.

Indoor Playspaces


ACT Indoor Playstation at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine


1047 Amsterdam Avenue at West 112th Street

$6, free for adults and babies under 6 months

This indoor gym for children 5 and under has slides, balls and large colorful mats for crawling. Before or after playing look for peacocks and visit the charming sculptures in the Cathedral’s Children’s Garden, or wander around the majestic Cathedral.


Apple Seeds

The 2,500+ square foot, very clean, well-designed NYC-themed play area has soft gym equipment, slides, a kid-sized taxi, a deli with plastic fruit and vegetables, a huge Lego table and more.

Membership includes unlimited, seven-days-a-week access to the indoor playground for all kids in a family and up to five different grown-up relatives or caregivers, plus discounts on classes, special events and complimentary guest passes for first-time Apple Seeds visitors.

ARTech: Adventures In Art + Technology

Two of our favorite spots, Children’s Museum of the Arts and the New York Hall of Science, join with the Meatpacking BID to present a pop-up activity center comprised of STEAM-based experiential workshops, installations, and interactive moments for school age children and their accompanying adults. Plus a pop-up Planetarium and an awesome giant ball pit. Online RSVP is required for a 1-hour timed entry slot.


Baby & Toddler Play at the J


334 Amsterdam (@ West 76th Street)

Enjoy a drop-in play space with padding and apparatuses to climb, balance, and jump. A tumbling instructor is on hand to assist babies and parents/caregivers with the equipment. Two sections for babies (birth to crawling) and toddlers (walking to 36 months).


Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA)

This delightful, inviting space features self guided art exploration for ages 10 months-15 years. Experiment with sculpture, paints, textiles, sound design, animation, and clay in daily open workshops led by teaching artists and explore rotating exhibitions by established and emerging contemporary artist.

Drive a truck, ride a horse, do wall puzzles and romp through the jungle gyms, slides, and bouncy surfaces of this modern, clean 1,500 square-foot indoor playground. For kids 5 and under, with a special area for babies 12 months and under. Plus a good excuse to brunch/get cronuts in one of our favorite neighborhoods.


City Treehouse

Small but enchanting, this playspace has a two-story tree house with slides and caves, plus a water table with jets and water wheels.

Discovery Programs’ spacious gym is open for free play for youngsters 6-48 months to run, jump, tumble and play.


Elliott’s Gymnastics

The Art Farm in the City

Tot Zone at Congregation Ramath Orah

Children ages 0-3 can play with a slide, baby riding toys, mini trampoline, blocks, toy kitchen, and much more. Facilitated by Tot Shabbat teachers.
